Offered at CoLLT

Language is the foundation for all reading, writing, speaking, listening, and higher-order thinking skills. Cohesive Language & Literacy Therapy, PLLC provides research supported evaluation and treatment services focused on the language-based learning needs of clients who are struggling academically.

Cohesive Language & Literacy Therapy, PLLC specializes in the treatment of language-based learning disorders such as dyslexia, impairments of written expression, developmental language delay, and/or central auditory processing disorder.

We are equipped to meet the needs of school-aged children and college students.

Many students with language-based learning disorders also have co-occurring conditions, including: ADD/ADHD, anxiety, articulation/phonological disorders, executive functioning impairments, developmental delays, brain injury, English language learner status, and/or dyscalculia.

Evaluations may include a variety of measures such as standardized tests, criterion-referenced measures, curriculum-based measures, as well as informal assessment of present levels of performance.

The results of the evaluation will describe:

  • Speech, language, and academic skills in comparison to same-age peers
  • Profiles of processing strengths and vulnerabilities
  • Diagnostic clarification
  • Recommendations for academic accommodations and treatment, if appropriate
  • Referral to other providers, if indicated

Evaluations may include the following skill areas:

    • Word/sound/discourse level language skills
    • Semantic (meaning & vocabulary), syntactic (grammar & word order), pragmatic (social context), phonology (sound-based skills)
    • Oral and reading comprehension skills

* Please note that IQ testing is not a provided service.

Based upon evaluation results, treatment is individualized to capitalize on the client’s strengths and address the most pressing areas of need.

Intervention is multisensory, systematic, explicit, and paced according to the client’s rate of mastery.

Treatment includes introduction of new targets as well as opportunities to develop automaticity of previously learned skills.

Therapy materials and techniques are selected according to the principles of evidence-based practice.

Therapy sessions are offered in-person or remotely over a secure, HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform.

Clients must be physically located in Washington State at the time of service.

The determination of whether teletherapy is a viable option will be made on a case-by-case basis and will only be recommended if the quality of services is expected to be equivalent to traditional, in-person treatment.

To facilitate a successful telehealth session, please ensure that:

  • The client has access to a computer with a web cam with audio/video capabilities, consistent high-speed internet connectivity, and any low-tech equipment (i.e., dry erase board, pencil/paper, etc.) that your clinician has requested for the telehealth session.
  • The client has a work area that is distraction free, has adequate lighting, and appropriate seating (e.g., at a desk or table).
  • An adult is available to troubleshoot technology issues if needed.
  • The client is able and willing to follow verbal directions to a reasonable degree, attend, and self-regulate without physical prompting from the therapist.

Procedures and Paperwork

Sessions are scheduled on a weekly recurring basis. An average of 80% attendance of scheduled appointments is expected, as consistency is the key to making progress. Failure to meet attendance requirements may result in discharge from services.

Your session time is reserved exclusively for you. Providing as much prior notice of any changes to the regular schedule is greatly appreciated. Any missed appointments or sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will result in a charge of the full session rate.

Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice due to illness are not charged at the therapist’s discretion. As a courtesy, please give as much notice as possible if you must cancel due to illness. If you have recently experienced symptoms of or have had an exposure to an infectious disease but still feel well enough to participate in therapy, please contact me to discuss whether temporarily changing your in-person appointment to a telehealth session would be appropriate.

Please note that the waiting area is shared by multiple practitioners and your help with maintaining a professional and peaceful waiting room environment is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for escorting your child from the parking lot to the waiting room and promptly meeting your child in the waiting room at the scheduled end time of their session. Children may not be left unattended (for safety reasons) in the waiting area.

In order to protect the privacy of therapy sessions in progress, please remain in the waiting area until I greet you.

A credit card is required to be kept on file prior to the initiation of services. We accept all major credit cards and HSA/FSA cards.

Payment for services will automatically be charged to the card on file the day that services are rendered.

We are not in-network with any health insurance plans and do not offer direct insurance billing services.

We are happy to provide you with a superbill to self-submit to your insurance plan for direct reimbursement, according to your out-of-network benefit coverage. Please note that superbills may not be submitted to Medicaid plans.

Every insurance carrier has a different procedure for self-submitting superbills; however, general information about how file a claim with your insurance company can be found here.

Premera clients may follow these instructions to submit a superbill for direct reimbursement.
